Charity Case Has It
Artist is an inadequate groomer. Period. Throughout the show Artist constantly used being poor and inexperienced as a shield during judging. Karen Halligan took the bait early on. Xavier quickly followed. Artist knew all he had to do was pick “difficult” dogs and at least try to groom them. The judges would then fall all over themselves that an inexperienced groomer attempted to groom a “difficult” dog. Artist was judged by a different and lower standard than the other contestants. Karen Halligan of all people should know that being well intentioned and capable are sometimes two different things. Many animals in shelters are there because their owners are incapable of taking care of them. It doesn’t matter how much love the owner has for their pet that won’t get the animal groomed, fed, or protected.
Jonathan, in the finale, was given TWO dogs that already had bad hair cuts. One dog had several areas of its body shaved to the skin. The day of the contest it was raining. The owners of each dog was handling them in a pavilion in the parking lot. I wonder where that dirt came from?
The American Dream of one earning their prosperity through hard work and SKILL was shattered. The winner of Groomer Has It won because he happened to have the “right” personal characteristics and background to satisfy the judges and public. He did not earn it through hard work and SKILL. Groomer Has It sent out a terrible message not only shattering the American Dream but also endorsing discrimination. If you can promote someone because of their personal characteristics and background you can also demote them for the same reasons.

Hi Jacques
I understand how you feel, but we need to keep in mind that this is a television program and they may have their own reality and programing needs. People should be aware of this going in.
Both contestants will benefit from the show I’m sure. And the groomer with the most skill will win out in the end.
I just wish them all well and much success for the future!

WOW Jacques! I can not believe that you actually feel that way! Through out the show, Artist always showed the most heart and the most passion. The fact that he was able to accomplish what he accomplished having the least experience in the house and the fact that he never gave up is the reason why he won. It was not his sad stories that won it for him, it was his passion and he was DEFINITELY NOT judged on a lower standard. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and the first time I saw Artist’s passion on this show, I felt he should win. They made the PERFECT choice. Besides, Jonathan’s head was way too big already and he thought that since he had experience, he had it in the bag. Same thing Hillary Clinton thought!

I think that Artist did do a good job. And he has heart. You know he won when he picked a dog no one else would, because it is about helping the animal. He was passionate about what he was doing and he was tender, I don’t think he used his lot in life so to speak to manipulate the judges. I think he won fair and square and I was praying he would win. You need to rejoice that this young man is going to be able to take care of his child and his mom. He is special, don’t forget he was made in God’s image, too.

I agree with Jacques. GHI follows the trite reality show formula, that they want a “transformation” story line, drawing the audience in emotionally instead of logic — most of these competition shows are never about the best winning; in fact, the best usually never wins. However, I didn’t think the judges really wanted to award Artist the title, they were probably forced to do so by the producers… To me, they certainly didn’t look all that happy telling Artist he was the winner.
BTW, heart & passion do not equate skill. My current groomer probably would rather be spending time with her horse than washing my dogs; but she is really good at what she’s doing, and she knows her stuff.

have to say agree with jaques…
a merit of winning by doing the correct and hard work should be acknowledge.
however, like our administrator says….IS TV !!
and for what have seen in other reality shows….the looser gets more attention and better jobs…soo..go jonathan!
not that he needs it….his clientele repertoire is very impresive already.
touching our human sensitivities, it is nice to hope that now artist can have his son & mom living with him and he can care for them.
so after all….they are all winners!

Bottom line - when I look at my 13-year-old Maltese (who is spry as a 5-year-old) and imagine sending her to be groomed, I see myself running to Artist’s shop and running from Jonathan’s. Artist would treat my Daisy exactly like her mommy and daddy do: acting silly, having fun and putting her at ease. I’m afraid Jonathan might put Daisy in the third class puppy room and have some underling use the second hand water from the first class celbrity dogs’ baths to wash her.

I thought I was the only person in the world who watched that show!
Glad to see I’m not the only one.

I find that watching a “reality” show does require the viewer to understand that much of what you see is heavily edited and designed to skew the viewer’s sympathies. However, I agree with Cyndy: I would rather Artist handle my fur-baby than Jonathan. Yes, I know Jonathan loves dogs and is passionate about grooming. But I would rather my Jewel be treated with the heart of Artist. And knowing that he now has the “leg up”, I hope he makes use of the gift.

Artist deserves to be Groomer of the Year. He took the challenge, choose the most difficult dogs to groom most of the time and proved he can groom and work under pressure. Most important of all, he has the right ATTITUDE. He cared about both the dogs and his competitors. He has compassion, honesty, humility, hope, faith, love, heart & soul. He is real and genuine. All three Judges judged right. Life is fair after all. Thank you Artist for being an inspiration. We need more dog groomers like you.

Artist congratulations my man! great job! wow ja-kes. that is too harsh. your favorite didnt win and you are taking it out on someone who deserved that crown. all the blogs are about you now. i gues you must have the formular to getting people centred around you. isnt that what Artist needed to do too? and your allegations are totally unfounded. the best man won. it was afterall a competition, not a test. the other groomers who always got ahead of Artist always chose the best dogs. leaving the difficult yes difficult dogs for the last man in line. and if the were so good why did they go for dogs hat werent so challenging. Artist never backed away from a fight. and he had to fight all the way to the prize, so doesnt that make him more desrving. and he did one of the most selfless things ever when he offered his client to the other contestant at the charity adoption fair. that made Artist my winner there and then. how many of those guys would have done that.
