new019c.jpg This creep kicked his roommate’s Boston terrier to death so savagely that details of the heinous crime left grand jurors weeping, the pet’s owner said yesterday. Tafik Habib, who was indicted in the case last week, allegedly attacked little Sasha after Teddy Bonaros left the apartment to get her and his other dogs their favorite treat: fried chicken from a Chinese restaurant.

“I knew something was wrong [upon returning] because the dogs didn’t come running to greet me,” said Bonaros, 50.
“I saw Sasha on the floor and had a severe pain in my ribs. I was devastated. I tried giving her mouth-to-mouth, but she must have died immediately.”

Bonaros said Habib had moved into his three-bedroom Washington Heights apartment - home to his eight dogs, including Sasha’s four puppies - in December, after finding the apartment through a Web-site listing.
“From the beginning, it was clear he didn’t like dogs. He used to say they are like dirt, they have no value in life,” Bonaros said. “I should never have left him alone with them.”

Bonaros said that when he testified about the beating that Habib allegedly gave Sasha, “some of the [grand] jurors had tears rolling down their faces.”

Habib told cops he kicked the 15-pound, 3-year-old dog after she attacked him. If this is true it may have been that she was protecting her puppies.
He was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, and is due back in court in July.
His lawyer did not immediately return calls for comment.

new019b.jpg Meanwhile, Bonaros, a former airport security screener, says he can’t work now because of emotional trauma from the incident.
He said he keeps Sasha’s ashes next to a candle in his bedroom.
“She was just a loving dog who would never have hurt anybody,” he said. “It still devastates me to think about her . . . Every time I think about what happened, I break down.” Teddy named one of the pups Sashita - or Little Sasha - after her mother.

Maria Eftimiades of Northeast Boston Terrier Rescue, which helped Bonaros pay for Sasha’s cremation, decried the crime.
“The puppies were only 8 weeks old” when their mother was killed, Eftimiades said. “If they’d been any younger, they wouldn’t have survived.” source: The New York Post.
